5 Ways to be Lean and Green for Earth Day

You may think celebrating Earth Day is only about practicing habits that benefit our planet; however, did you know there’s ways you can go green that also benefit your weight loss success? Here are 5 ways to be lean and green for Earth Day:

1. Invest in a reusable water bottle. When it comes to staying hydrated and supporting your weight loss, H2O is the way to go! In addition to helping as an appetite suppressant and boosting your metabolism, water also cleanses your body of waste and aids with water retention (goodbye bloat!). Instead of drinking your way through plastic water bottles, spend a few extra dollars and invest in a reusable water bottle, that will not only save you money in the long run, but also benefit our planet. Not sure which bottle to get? Check out the HidrateSpark 3 Smart Water Bottle that comes with a FREE Hydration Tracker!

2. Get active outside. You don’t have to forgo driving all day to go green! Take the opportunity to take a walk around your neighborhood or your office on your lunch break. Explore a new hiking trail or even a nearby lake to enjoy. There’s so many ways to be active outside that will not only benefit your weight loss, but also help you get your daily dose of Vitamin D. Check out these fun outdoor activities to enjoy!

3. Shop your local farmer’s market. Supermarkets have made it convenient for us to enjoy our favorite produce year-round; however, did you know that by shopping at your local farmer’s market, you’re helping the environment? It’s true! Locally-grown crops you see at farmer’s markets travel a much shorter distance than most of the produce you come across at your supermarket, which in turn, helps reduce gas emission. Plus, shopping local is a fun way to explore new produce you may not have thought to try out! Click here to find a farmer’s market near you!

4. Skip the meat once a week. Eliminating meat from your diet just one day a week can have a significant impact on our planet. From reducing fuel emissions to supporting water conservation, practicing a vegetarian diet even just one day a week can help make our planet a little greener and possibly leave your waist a little leaner. Check out these alternatives to meat consumption and find out how it can benefit not just your weight loss, but overall health as well!

5. Plant a garden. One way to expand your produce pallet, support your weight loss success, and go green, is growing fruits and vegetables! Not only will it help benefit your health, but it’ll also help reduce the amount of fossil fuel emissions caused by transporting food to super markets. Not sure where to start? Check out these recommend veggies that are great for planting in the spring!
